Research

My research explores writing in nonprofit settings, especially its role in supporting emerging collectives and projects. Several of my recent publications are based on a multiyear field study with a nonprofit team that developed an online learning and community-building platform for grassroots leaders. In a series of three articles, I identify communication-design practices that helped move this project from idea to reality. This work builds on my earlier research on digital writing in nonprofits, which focused on how organizations integrate digital storytelling practice into their work.

I also write theoretical and reflective pieces about teaching. My recent writing about pedagogy relates to my work with HumanitiesX, DePaul’s Experiential Humanities Collaborative. Beyond my own publications in this area, I’ve enjoyed supporting the development of experiential humanities theory and practice by editing the work of DePaul colleagues and students on the HumanitiesX Medium site and working with invited presenters at the annual Teaching the Publicly Engaged Humanities to Undergraduates Summer Workshop Series.
